The Cadillac F1 team have announced that Colton Herta will race for Hitech GP during his debut season in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2026. The former IndyCar driver, who joined the American outfit as a test driver, will race for the British team as part of his development programme, allowing him to immerse himself in the heart of European single-seater racing.
The announcement also confirmed that the 25-year-old will retain his role as a Cadillac F1 test driver while contesting the 2026 Formula 2 season. The Hitech GP currently fields Luke Browning and Dino Beganovic in its Formula 2 lineup.
Herta, who previously participated in IndyCar, recorded nine race victories through his eight-year stint in the American open wheel racing series.

Herta's reaction to Hitech GP move
Reacting to his Formula 2 move with Hitech GP. The California native detailed his excitement about his new challenge and highlighted the opportunity to measure against the best young drivers in the world.

Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss also reacted to the announcement of Herta’s move. The TWG Motorsports chief praised the exceptional talent of Herta before expressing his confidence that the former IndyCar driver would succeed in Formula 2.
“Colton has already shown exceptional talent and professionalism throughout his career. His move into Formula 2 with Hitech is a natural and important next step in his development towards Formula 1.”
