Toro Rosso driver Pierre Gasly has received a 15-place grid penalty in Mexico as the Frenchman has switched back to an older power-unit, dropping him down to last place on Sunday's grid in Mexico City.
Toro Rosso ran the last two races with the much talked about new engine, but Gasly has opted to switch back to the old engine for the Mexican Grand Prix.
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is almost a mile and a half above sea level, making the air a lot thinner than on any other circuit. Honda have opted that the older spec would be the better solution for this weekend, taking the penalty in their stride.
Honda are worried about Gasly's power unit. Toyoharu Tanabe, the boss at Honda, fears that the third spec wouldn't make it until the end of the season, which is why Gasly's getting the old spec for this weekend. The fact that it comes with a 15-place grid penalty is something that the team will just have to swallow.
