Lando Norris got a great start on lap one and moved up three positions. Unfortunately, he was given a 5-second penalty for being over his grid box line before the start. Throughout the race, Norris could not catch up with his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who led the race for most of the 57 laps. However, Norris did manage to make the podium in third.
A safety car briefly came out on track due to debris from Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda touching cars. This allowed for a “free” pit stop for the drivers. Both Ferrari drivers went on hard tyres while both Mercedes drivers went on softs.
Sainz retired his car on lap 57 after suffering side damage and a ten-second penalty. Multiple penalties were handed out, including five- and ten-second penalties for Liam Lawson.
