McLaren CEO Zak Brown briefly commented on McLaren’s Monza weekend and the position swap between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris on his X profile. Although the championship fight between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris is heating up, with eight races remaining and a 31-point gap between them, McLaren continues to follow the clear approach it has maintained since the start of the season.
At Monza, the Aussie had the chance to extend his lead by another three points over his teammate after the latter was forced to give up the position due to a slow pit stop in the closing stages of the Italian race.
Despite this, Piastri still obeyed the team order, returning the position to his teammate even though it meant losing three valuable points that could prove decisive in the championship fight.
He then added that "however the championship goes, what's important is that it runs within the principles and the racing values that we have at McLaren, that we have created together with our drivers."
Zak Brown highlights 'respect' between Norris and Piastri
Zak Brown also addressed McLaren’s Monza race and the much-debated swap, speaking of the “great respect” between the two drivers on his X profile.
''P2 & P3 in Monza! Great teamwork and respect from Lando & Oscar secures another double podium and valuable points. We keep pushing as a team, focus now on Baku.''
As for the Constructors’ Championship, the Papaya team has effectively had the title in hand for some time, having surpassed the 600-point mark at Monza. The standings now show them on 617 points, compared to Ferrari’s 280, Mercedes’ 260, and Red Bull’s 239.
