Young generation of F1 drivers take on COVID-19 with sim racing competition

Some of the Formula 1 drivers have tried to entertain the F1 public in recent weeks by participating in several sim racing championships. Especially young drivers like Lando Norris and Max Verstappen are busy with this. Now some of them are going to start their own competition and they are doing it for charity.

The championship is called 'Race for the World' and will take place on three different evenings in the coming week. Drivers from F2, F3, FE and Super Formula will compete against six young F1 stars. These initiators are Charles Leclerc, Alexander Albon, Lando Norris, George Russell, Antonio Giovinazzi and Nicholas Latifi.

Of course they will all fight for victory, but the main goal of this championship is to raise money. The drivers have therefore set up a page on which they have set a goal of $100,000. The full amount that will eventually be donated by viewers will be transferred to the Solidarity Fund of the World Health Organization.

Big absent is Max Verstappen, probably because the official F1 game of Codemasters is being driven. Verstappen has previously indicated that he doesn't have a good feeling about this game. Plus, he's busy with racing for Team Redline in iRacing.

The first race of the 'Race for the World' championship will take place next Saturday April 11th at 18:00 GMT.
