Toto Wolff has confirmed his Mercedes team will not walk through the exit door when new regulations come into place. Wolff insists racing is a key part of the Mercedes business.
He’s told the media in the past that Mercedes have concerns about the new regulations coming into the sport in 2021. Ferrari has threatened to leave Formula 1.
“Formula 1 is part of our core business,” said Wolff whilst talking at Bild100Sport’ press conference in Berlin.
“The first Mercedes was a race car. Formula 1 is not just a marketing platform for us. There is a direct technology transfer from the series.
“We cherish the sportiness of our brand. That’s why we want to stay in the series, because it’s the only true global platform that counts for us.”

Mercedes only returned to the sport in 2010, but for have won each of the last four constructors titles.
The silver arrows are to enter cars into the 2019 Formula E World Championship and Wolff confirms this is not a competition to their Formula 1 team.
“For us, it’s like a start-up we’re interested in. But it is complementary to Formula 1 for us, not a competition.”
