Wolff admits Ferrari were stronger

Toto Wolff has admitted that Ferrari had the stronger car as they were victorious in their home Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc taking his second win in a row and the second of his career.

Mercedes won the first eight races of the season, but have only taken victory in two of the last six, with Max Verstappen and Leclerc taking two each.

At the Italian Grand Prix, both Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas had opportunities to attack Leclerc, but the Ferrari's straight line speed was too much and they were unable to prevent the Monegasque driver sending the crowd crazy.

Wolff told Sky Sports: "They won the race. They had the strongest car here... I thought Valtteri [Bottas] would've had a chance. It's so difficult to close in on the straight these two guys have non-verbal communication and I think Lewis knew Valtteri was coming with the tyres and gave it a final push.

Wolff also stayed away from any questions about a potential penalty for forcing Hamilton off the track, saying: "I have so many problems in my life to sort out, I don't want Michael Masi (the race director) as well. You could've given them both penalties.
