Williams denies insinuations from Red Bull about Mercedes engine

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas caused a stir at the Turkish Grand Prix with their high speeds on the straights. Red Bull Racing claimed it was the engine's fault, but Jost Capito denied it.

The Williams team boss has a Mercedes engine at his disposal this season, so he knows the current state of the engine. According to Capito, it is therefore impossible for Mercedes to get its speed from there. "According to the regulations, Mercedes has to provide all teams with the same engines," he judged in conversation with RTL.

Capito then praised the Mercedes engine that is part of Williams' car this season. "We are very happy with the Mercedes engines, there is no doubt about that. It is a very good engine, if not the best in Formula 1. The fact that Williams is not further forward is certainly not due to the power unit from Brixworth. We need to invest more time on the car."

George Russell has mainly been the man bringing in the points for Williams this season. The British driver has earned 16 points so far, including the nine points he earned during the cancelled Belgium GP. Due to his strong performances, Russell earned himself a move to Mercedes for 2022.
