'FIA discusses return of Turkey GP to F1 calendar'

Ben Sulayem met with President Erdogan in the seaside resort of Marmaris on Sunday, where the possibility of a return of both F1 and the World Rally Championship was discussed. This is reported by Motorsport.com.
Ben Sulayem says several topics were discussed during the meeting. "We discussed the possibility of a return of Formula 1 and WRC to Turkey," said the FIA president. "Istanbul Park is a modern circuit which is popular with drivers while the city of Istanbul is a thriving metropolis which would welcome a return of Formula 1 with open arms."
President Erdogan also recognises the importance of the economic and cultural impact F1 can have on the country, according to Ben Sulayem. There is no further word on concrete plans. Turkey hosted an F1 race at Istanbul Park from 2005 to 2011 and the sport returned there in 2020 and 2021, when the F1 calendar was adjusted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
