Despite a solid fourth-place finish by George Russell in Spain, Toto Wolff believes that Mercedes still has significant room for improvement in the upcoming races. The Brackley team emerged from the first triple-header of the season having lost second place in the Constructors’ Championship to Ferrari, although it must be said that Kimi Antonelli’s double DNF in Monaco and Barcelona certainly didn’t help in that regard.
Introducing the Montreal weekend, Wolff stated: “We are eager to get back on track in Montreal after a challenging triple header. We have shown improvements in performance in Barcelona and we can build on that''.
''However, we know that we need to be more consistent and keep making progress with the W16 if we want to rediscover our form from earlier this season. We had a strong race here in 2024 and I hope we can match that level this time around.”
Mercedes team principal then continued: “
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a fantastic track with a mix of slow corners and long straights, which often makes for exciting races. Montreal is also a great city to host F1 and the fans always create a great atmosphere.”
Wolff's satisfaction despite Verstappen and Russell's clash

Despite Mercedes performing well in Spain, with a fourth-place finish for Russell, the weekend was still chaotic for the German team. Andrea Kimi Antonelli retired due to an engine issue, and Max Verstappen collided with Russell.
The latter incident, in particular, sparked considerable controversy directed at the Dutchman. Some analysts even suggested that the Red Bull Racing driver should have been disqualified. Wolff himself also commented on the outburst of the four-time world champion.
Despite losing second place in the constructor, however, the team did make solid progress against
Red Bull. The Silver Arrows gained eleven points on the Austrian outfit, as Verstappen dropped to P10 after receiving a penalty for his collision with Russell.
