MotoGP legend Jorge Lorenzo sees clear similarities between Pedro Acosta and Max Verstappen
“Pedro is very similar in that sense. He reminds me a lot of Verstappen”
- Jorge Lorenzo
Interviewed by Moto.it, the former Spanish champion highlighted the relentless hunger for victory — and for training — shared by both: “Verstappen is someone who showed talent from a very young age, but just as importantly he had discipline — and an almost obsessive drive for training and constant improvement.
“He was heavily shaped and pushed by his father, who was extremely demanding, convinced his son needed to train 12 hours a day. That kind of upbringing, almost like going to military school, hardens you.
“Pedro is very similar in that sense. He trains relentlessly, from six in the morning until eight in the evening — he’s an animal. He reminds me a lot of Verstappen. They’re ultra-competitive: they ride motocross bikes, scooters, supermotos, trial bikes — they’re always working, always training.”

Another award for Verstappen caps outstanding 2025 campaign

The four-time world champion earned the honour thanks to his sensational pass around the outside at the start of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix earlier this season, a move that saw Verstappen muscle his way past Oscar Piastri and take control of the race into Turn 1.
That overtake proved just enough to beat stiff competition, edging out another standout moment from the year: Charles Leclerc’s fearless move around the outside of George Russell at Zandvoort.
