Lewis Hamilton reflected on his recent social media exchange with Neymar Jr. following Brazil's World Cup victory over Scotland, offering further insight into his relationship with the Brazilian superstar. Brazil beat Scotland 3-0 overnight, with Neymar making his first appearance of this World Cup after returning from injury. After the match, the former Barcelona forward posted a series of photos on social media with the caption,
"Remember who you are," the same message Hamilton had shared after winning in Barcelona. The seven-time world champion then replied to Neymar's post on Instagram, writing: "Always.".
Speaking to
GPBlog among other media in Austria, the seven-time world champion revealed that the two regularly keep in touch and spoke warmly about their friendship, admitting he was particularly pleased to see Neymar share the same message he had posted after his victory in Barcelona. Hamilton also highlighted the importance of using large social media platforms to spread positivity, adding that he was delighted to see his message resonate beyond
Formula 1 and reach audiences in Brazil through Neymar.
"We message each other often. Very thankful for the friendship I have with Neymar. I literally was just talking about his kids the other day because he's got beautiful kids. It was really cool to see him post that because I don't always see people with amazing platforms like his really use it for much sharing a lot of positivity.
"In the world we're living in right now, we need it more than ever. And so he's got a huge, huge following. And so to see that what I said has traveled to Brazil and he heard it and felt compelled to also share the same sort of message with his just gives me real happiness that it's going even further than it was from what I said.".
Russell labels Hamilton and Ferrari 'a huge threat' in clear title fight warning
George Russell believes
Ferrari are becoming an increasingly serious threat in the title fight, with Lewis Hamilton at the heart of their recent resurgence. The Mercedes driver praised Hamilton's return to form, pointing out that Formula 1 is so complex that every element - from the car and tyres to the power unit and setup - needs to work together for a driver to perform at their best. He also dismissed suggestions that Hamilton had declined, insisting his recent run proves that drivers do not suddenly lose their ability.
Russell added that Hamilton now appears to have found the right balance with
Ferrari, allowing him to extract the most from the package. While Kimi Antonelli remains the benchmark at the front thanks to his consistent performances, Russell admitted Ferrari are closing in quickly and described both the Scuderia and Hamilton as major threats in the championship battle:
"For sure, he is a big threat. Ferrari are a huge threat. Kimi is still very much the driver out front and his performance really incredibly and consistently. But Ferrari feel like they're coming and Lewis is at the forefront of that."
