Sebastian Vettel threw away all hope to get a result in the French GP in the very first corner as he crashed into Valtteri Bottas, but the German says that he simply had nowhere to go.
Vettel limited the damage by finishing in P5, but he still has to feel disappointed by the race as a whole. As far as the crash goes, he did acknowledge that it was his mistake, not Bottas's.
"My start was too good and then I ended up with nowhere to go," he told reporter Natalie Pinkham.
"It was my mistake.
"I tried to brake early and get out of it but I had no room.
"Valtteri tried to get his position back which is fair enough but then I had nowhere to go.
"The turn goes left and I tried to slow down but with that little grip, I therefore unfortunately made contact with Valtteri."
