Sebastian Vettel insists that there's no bad blood between him and Lewis Hamilton, saying that Hamilton's remarks last weekend were meant as a joke.
Vettel and Hamilton were the two that fought it out for the title last year, with the latter eventually grabbing his fourth championship in his Mercedes. The tension of their rivalry sometimes showed off the track, and it seemed to have spilt over to 2018 on the Saturday in Melbourne. Hamilton said he wanted to "wipe the smile off his [Vettel's] face" after qualifying in pole position, only to be beaten by the German the day after. What goes around comes around?
"Lewis said he was joking and I believe him," Vettel said on that Hamilton quote.
Vettel said that both him and Hamilton have an age where they won't lower themselves to a level of constant jabbing at each other.
"It's fine as long as we joke with each other and I think even if we are very different persons, I think we share a common passion and that makes us quite equal again."
"I don't see why we shouldn't get on with each other," Vettel concluded.
