Max Verstappen can equal one of Lewis Hamilton’s records in Austin on Sunday. With five wins, Hamilton is the most successful driver ever at the Circuit of the Americas. Verstappen has four victories, but arrives in Austin carrying impressive form.
Red Bull heads to Austin on the back of consecutive wins in Malaysia and Singapore, although Mercedes remains the leader in the Constructors’ championship. If Verstappen wins at COTA, it will be three Grand Prix victories in a row for the first time since the season finale in 2025.

Hamilton set the record between 2012 and 2017

Hamilton won the first-ever Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in 2012. Two years later, the Briton began an impressive run with Mercedes, winning four times in a row from 2014 through 2017. That brought his total to five victories in Austin. Then Verstappen began closing in on the record in 2021. The Dutchman won three years in a row, from 2021 through 2023, and added a fourth victory last season, meaning the Dutchman now needs just one more win to equal Hamilton’s record.

Verstappen is chasing another record in the United States

Verstappen has won four of the last five Grands Prix in Texas. The only exception was 2024, when Charles Leclerc won for Ferrari. Verstappen started from pole in 2021 and 2025. In 2022, he lined up second on the grid. His most remarkable victory came in 2023, when he won from sixth on the grid despite also struggling with brake problems halfway through the race.
A win on Sunday would also count towards another record. His victory last year made Verstappen the first driver to claim seven Grand Prix wins in the United States: four in Austin, two in Miami and one in Las Vegas. He is yet to add to that tally this year, with Kimi Antonelli winning in Miami in May, while Verstappen finished fifth. If he wins at COTA, however, it will be a record-breaking eighth Grand Prix victory on American soil.
