Max Verstappen isn’t keen on talking about it, but at Silverstone, there was no dodging the topic. After reports surfaced in recent days about a potential move to Mercedes, the Dutchman was bombarded with questions at Red Bull Racing’s Energy Station.
Verstappen has made it clear he wants to stay with Red Bull. However, things can change, and that moment might be approaching.
As GPblog reported last week, Verstappen’s departure from the Austrian team could become a reality if the current organizational setup remains unchanged. Simply put, team principal Christian Horner’s authority would need to be significantly curtailed.

Verstappen reacts to questions about his future

On the eve of the British Grand Prix, Verstappen was asked about his future with Red Bull or whether he would be racing for Mercedes next season? However, the Dutchman was not very talkative with the media, including GPblog. "Honestly, I have nothing more to add to what I said last week. Last week we didn't get a great result. I don't think it was a great weekend, but overall, we also had some bad luck."

"Of course, I'm not saying we could challenge McLaren, but we could've achieved a decent result. And yes, everything I said last week still holds. Nothing has changed on my part."

Verstappen was also asked why his entourage was talking with Mercedes? The world champion responded a bit irritated. "Who says that?" To which the journalist replied: "Mercedes." Verstappen then answered: "I have nothing to add to that."

Is a move to Mercedes in 2026 smart?

Switching to another team always entails a risk. With the new regulations, it's uncertain who will have the best car. "That's why I have a contract with Red Bull," Verstappen said, before indicating again that he prefers not to delve further into the topic.
