Verstappen on 'angry people': 'That's part of it in some countries'

Max Verstappen will have extra security with him for this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix. The Dutchman himself is somewhat light-hearted about it in front of Viaplay's camera, but does state that this is the first time it has been needed in Mexico.

After the boos in the United States, people were already wondering how Verstappen would be welcomed at the Mexican Grand Prix. Helmut Marko already revealed that the Dutchman will have two bodyguards with him for this weekend, but according to the Red Bull driver, there is no need to focus heavily on that.

"Well I have that quite often, but only now for the first time in Mexico," Verstappen told Viaplay. The Dutchman also comes to the track in the Netherlands with more security.

"We don't actually have to spend much time on that. Of course, because of what happened at the end of last year, a few people were obviously a bit angry. For the rest, it's a bit of a normal procedure that in certain countries that's naturally part of it." Asked if it has to do with the online threat, Verstappen said: ''Yes, it does have a bit to do with that. I have to say I've been welcomed here just fine. Yesterday already, so in the end, it's not too bad. So it's just a bit more security."
