Verstappen modest about possible record in F1: 'Not comparable'

With his second world title in his pocket, Max Verstappen seems to be heading for another record. The Red Bull Racing driver could equal the record of thirteen wins in a season, currently held by Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher. Verstappen himself thinks the record, like most other statistics, is not that important.

Verstappen could match the record and even break it, if he manages to win two more races this season. However, he thinks a comparison with other Formula 1 champions is out of place. "I know the opportunity is there and I know we have a fast car, but I don't look so much at statistics because you can't compare them anyway," he is quoted by Formel1.de.

The two-time world champion stresses that there were fewer races in a season in the days of Schumacher and Vettel and that the chances of reaching the record are higher nowadays. He does not like to be compared to drivers who raced in a different era anyway, as that is impossible, according to the Dutchman, given the huge differences between each era.

Verstappen therefore remains focused on his own performance and getting the most out of his car. He says he can be more satisfied with that, rather than winning 13 or 14 races in an F1 season.
