Max Verstappen is thirty points behind leader Lewis Hamilton in the Formula 1 World Championship, and where some may still have the hope for a title fight, Verstappen has already given up hope of a title.
''I have already resigned myself to the fact that the world title cannot be won this year. Lewis Hamilton is simply in the best car and can beat his teammate. He's doing just fine and the gap between Valtteri Bottas and me will only get bigger during the season," says the Dutchman according to the NOS.

On the hunt for Mercedes

''The start of the season is fine, but we're not competing for the title. However, my mentality hasn't changed, because I still want to get the best out of the car every weekend. Of course, I want to win, but if second or third is the maximum, I have to be satisfied with that," says the Dutchman.
However, according to the driver of Red Bull Racing, it is annoying to depend on the performance of Mercedes. "It's a pity that I dropped out of the first race because otherwise, you are even better off. We don't stand a chance on our own, but if there are problems for Bottas or Hamilton we have to be there to take advantage of them. We won't make it easy for them," Verstappen concludes.
