It was relief and joy. After a long wait in Malaysia, Max Verstappen finally managed to take his first pole of the season. But the Red Bull Racing driver isn’t satisfied: now he wants to take the win in the Bahrain Grand Prix.
"It's fantastic. We have been trying many grands prix to get pole. Sometimes a bit closer than others but to finally get it, from where we started the season, pretty incredible," Verstappen said immediately after the session.
Verstappen knows better than anyone that the points are handed out on Sunday. Knowing he hasn’t won a single Grand Prix this season yet, that’s his goal: "I'm happy with today and, for sure, I'm going to try and win tomorrow. When you start first, that's the target."
Isack Hadjar finished third, which completed the celebration at Red Bull. The Frenchman will receive a grid penalty due to an engine change: "It's a bit unfortunate we take a penalty on a track where we are that fast but, from eighth, I'm confident we can come through the field and come back for a good result."
