Max Verstappen hoped that Kimi Antonelli and George Russell would fight harder than they did at the Italian GP. Verstappen said this to the Mercedes drivers behind the scenes, before all three headed to the podium.
After the Grand Prix, the top three traditionally sit together behind the scenes in the so-called cool down room. With the microphone on and the camera pointed at the drivers, it sometimes yields great conversations. This time, Antonelli, Russell and Verstappen provided some fun insights.
With Verstappen and Russell were initially in the room without Antonelli, the Briton asked Verstappen about his final pit stop. Antonelli and Verstappen pitted during the virtual safety car, while Russell stayed out. Russell asked when exactly the VSC ended, to which Verstappen indicated that it was just as he was exiting the pits.

Verstappen hoped for a bigger fight

When Antonelli joined them on the couch, the screen showed footage of the duel between the two Mercedes drivers. “I saw that and thought, ‘a bit more, guys,’” Verstappen jokes to the Mercedes men.
