Bizarre conditions will hit Spielberg for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, with tropical temperatures adding a different layer to what teams and drivers would have been expecting. In the Styrian hills, the weather can change very quickly, and that is shown with the conditions which will greet the
F1 circus as they arrive back in Europe on Thursday after George Russell
took victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Media day in Austria will be the hottest day of the week, with highs of 32 degrees Celcius expected, while heavy rain and thunderstorms are also expected. Those extreme conditions will steer clear when cars are out on track, but it highlights the tempremental nature of the weather that could be seen this weekend.
Max Verstappen and Lando Norris collided for the first time in their 2024 title battle at last year's Austrian Grand Prix.
Not as much rain, but high temperatures throughout the weekend
The threat of rain will decrease from the thunderstorm levels that will be seen on Thursday, with only a 20% chance of rain expected for the first two pracrice sessions of the weekend on Friday.
Temperatures will also decrease from Thursday, but highs of 27 degrees Celcius means valuable data can be collected with how the Pirelli tyres will perform in the warm conditions. 15 to 25 kph winds will also hit the
Red Bull Ring.
Saturday will see FP3 and qualifying take place, and a slight increase in the temperature will also be seen, with 28 degrees Celcius forecast, while less than a 20% chance of rain is expected. Winds will also die down to be just five to 15 kph.
As is the theme for the weekend, for Sunday's Grand Prix, yet another slight increase in the temperature will be seen, with 29 degrees Celcuis hitting the Red Bull Ring for the 11th Grand Prix of the season.
With teams and drivers having to navigate tyre tempartures on the hottest day of the race weekend, they will be happy to hear there is only a 20% chance of rain, while the winds will stay at five to 15 kph.
