Bizarre: Ferrari team member saves dislodged tyre from Russell's Mercedes

George Russell was initially able to continue driving in the Canadian Grand Prix despite his crash, but was called in by Mercedes later in the Formula 1 race to park his W14 in the garage. A dangerous situation occurred there, it now appears.

New footage has emerged of the moment Russell stops with his team. The footage shows the right rear tyre of his Mercedes W14 coming loose and rolling into the pit lane. The German team's crew notices this too late to be able to stop the tyre.

It is then not a team member of Mercedes, but of Ferrari that heroically intervenes. The mechanic from the Italian racing stable rushes after the tyre, which at that point had come to a halt after hitting the pit wall. The moment was captured in photos, which can be seen below.
