The Tsunoda connundrum continues to baffle Red Bull: 'We are trying'

For Tsunoda, his Red Bull stint has not gone the way it was thought it would. When he took over from the demoted Liam Lawson, it was expected that he would be closer to lead and senior Red Bull driver Max Verstappen.

Expectations the Japanese driver has failed to deliver, being unable to cope with the difficulties of the RB21 as effectively as the Dutchman has who has two wins to his name in the current F1 season.

Mekies, speaking to Sky Sports has outlined what Red Bull's objective is in terms of Tsunoda.

"It's what the team have been concentrating on and we are trying to find ways together to make further steps," the Frenchman clarified.

Mekies observes that Red Bull's number 2 did show improvements in the last race weekend in Belgium, and believes the return of form for Tsunoda is not written off at the Austrian racing team.

"Spa was very positive, Hungary has been trickier so it's more difficult to judge but there's no reason why Yuki's performances can't be what we have seen in the past," the team principal concluded.
