Tsunoda apologises after swearing: 'I didn't understand the exact meaning'

Yuki Tsunoda has apologised for his swearing on the team radio during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. The Japanese driver reiterated that he did not know the true meaning of the word he used.

Tsunoda was heavily fined by the FIA for swearing on the board radio of Visa Cash App RB. He expressed his dissatisfaction with other Formula 1 drivers who, in his opinion, were driving in his way. "These guys are f****** retarded," he shouted. Over that remark, the VCARB driver was allowed to come and explain to the stewards. They decided to impose a hefty fine of 40,000 euros on him, 20,000 of which was conditional.

After apologising to the stewards, Tsunoda did the same on his social media. "I wanted to say big apologies what I said in the radio today. Obviously I didn’t use it intentionally and was completely misunderstanding from myself that exact meaning of it. I now have better understanding for what the word means and am very apologetic for what I said," the VCARB driver wrote on X.
