AlphaTauri also have a problem from 2022. This is due to the withdrawal of Honda as an engine supplier from Formula 1. Team boss Franz Tost is very sorry that the Japanese are leaving the sport.
The news hit like a bomb this morning. At the end of 2021, Honda will leave as a Formula 1 engine supplier. This means that two teams face a major problem: Red Bull and AlphaTauri. The teams will have to look for a new power unit and the options are not exactly endless. The most likely option seems to be a return to Renault, but the move will not be easy given the tensions between the teams following the choice of Honda in 2018.

"Collaboration was good"

AphaTauri team principal Franz Tost has always been very happy with the Honda partnership, he told Motorsport.com. Scuderia AlphaTauri and Honda have built up a very good and professional relationship since we started to cooperate in 2018. It's unfortunate that Honda has decided to stop their commitment in F1, because their power unit's performance has been improving constantly and dramatically to become one of the best engines on the grid in a short period of time, since they returned to the sport.
"I'm convinced that together we will continue to achieve strong results in the remaining races this season and next year. We certainly respect the reason behind Honda's decision to focus on environmental initiatives and to strive for the realization of carbon neutrality, everybody at Scuderia AlphaTauri wish them well in reaching all their goals and to have a successful future ahead," the Austrian concludes.
