Tomorrow morning, the bosses of the Formula One will lay out the plans for the future of the sport, and the changes that will be made for 2021.
Liberty Media, owners of the F1, have said that they prefer to discuss the details of the plans in private to prevent a public debate from happening, but there are a couple of main points that the new plans will focus on.
  • Reducing the gap in prize money between the top and bottom teams.
  • Cut the budgets of the big teams; from £300 million+ to about half of that.
  • Cheaper, louder and simpler engines that reduce the gap between the top and the bottom, as well as being friendly for new engine partners.
  • Standardising some (low-impact) parts to further reduce cost
Ross Brawn, motorsports boss of the F1, will be the one presenting and explaining the plans tomorrow morning. It will be the first time the teams will hear in detail about the new deal.
The main goal, as can be seen in the four bullet points, is to increase spectacle in the sport, by making the field closer together, instead of having a handful of teams that are the obvious favourites every time. The sport will also be more profitable for everyone, as the bottom teams often struggle to keep their heads above water.
To be continued tomorrow.
