The Circuit de Catalunya in Spain seems to be close to a new agreement with Formula 1. The Catalan government has given green light for a contract extension of five years, which means that the Spanish Grand Prix could be held at the circuit in Barcelona for the next six years. For this, a deal with Formula 1 still has to be agreed upon.

Spanish GP set for another six years at Circuit de Catalunya

Nothing official has been confirmed yet about a possible contract extension, but the approval of the Catalan government is an important first step in the process. Earlier this year the circuit extended the contract with Formula 1 for just one year, so another agreement has to be made.
The Circuit de Catalunya has been criticised for not hosting the most exciting races in recent years. However, a lot of work is being done to the circuit to create more overtaking opportunities. There is also a possibility that a sprint weekend will be organised in 2022, something that could make the Spanish Grand Prix more attractive.
