Forest fires continue to ravage Canada: low smog also over Montreal

Forest fires continue to plague Canada and as a result, smog levels remain high in large parts of the country. Montreal is also affected. The city will host the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.

A week ago, an F1 spokesman informed that the continuation of the Grand Prix was not in danger. The fact is that some 127 forest fires remain in Quebec - in which Montreal lies - on Thursday morning. Smog is expected to cover much of the province during the day (Canadian time). The Environment Agency of Canada issued smog warnings for several areas just last Tuesday. The poor air quality is due to high concentrations of particulate matter as a result of the forest fires.

The government informs that people with fragile health should watch out for the smog. "Smog particularly affects asthmatic children and people with respiratory or heart conditions. They are therefore advised to avoid heavy physical activities outdoors until the smog warning is lifted," Environment Canada said.
