Young Russian Sergey Sirotkin has had a difficult introduction to Formula One, sitting 20th and last in the drivers’ standings. Despite this, Sirotkin says he is enjoying the challenge.
No points and a best finish of 14th in seven races would not have been what Sirotkin was looking for from the early days of his debut season.
It is fair to say that Williams have the worst car on the 2018 grid, but in races where they have both finished, the Russian has only beaten team mate Lance Stroll once.
“It’s been tricky,” he told Formula1.com. “We’re not scoring the results and the pace is not where we expected it to be.
“It would be easier to come in and get in a car which is easy to drive and ready for the points.”
Stroll has only scored points once this season, with an eighth placed finish in the unpredictable Azerbaijan.
Sirotkin continued: “But I quite enjoy the challenge, working with all the guys and staying united to improve the situation.
“It’s a team effort. I feel like I’m playing my role there. Once we sort things out and get the results, we will feel like we have really worked for it.”
