Shock twist? Big prediction drops on Verstappen’s 2025 title hopes

Will Buxton has weighed in on Max Verstappen’s Formula 1 title chances. The F1 insider has backed the Red Bull Racing driver to overturn the current deficit to Oscar Piastri through the remaining rounds of the season.

Buxton, who appeared on the recent episode of the Fast and Curious podcast, was asked about the possibility of Verstappen overturning the deficit to clinch his fifth consecutive title. Responding to the question, the British journalist expressed his confidence that Verstappen has what it takes to overturn the lead.

“If it were anyone else, you'd probably say it's tough. Lando had two-thirds of a season [2024] to overcome that kind of deficit, and he couldn't do it. But this isn't Lando, this is Max, and Max can do the impossible.”

“All it’s going to take is another Piastri implosion or for McLaren to start getting freaked out about team orders, or whatever it might be, and start handing these points over to Max.”

Buxton further detailed how Verstappen cannot be ruled out.

“Let’s not forget, since the restart of the season, since the summer break, he’s had a second place and two firsts. If he can perform at Singapore, which has always been a bogey track for him, the only one on the calendar he hasn’t won at. I think there’s a very serious chance. Andrea Stella thinks there’s a very serious chance, and you cannot discount Max.”

Max Verstappen, on his part, recently weighed in on his title chances. The Red Bull Racing driver detailed how he believes he is with a 50% chance of clinching the title.

Verstappen heads into the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, 69 points off championship leader Oscar Piastri. The Dutch driver will aim to further cut down the gap to the Australian to strengthen his title ambition.
