A race suit worn by Michael Schumacher has been sold for a five-figure sum at an online auction. The online auction was staged by Bonhams Cars, in partnership with The Schumacher Lounge, selling off the race suit that was worn by the German during the 2000 Hungarian Grand Prix.
The lot ran from 29 August to 19 September as part of the The Suchmacher Lounge Online Auction, with the suit selling for €95,650 come the end of the bidding window.

“Our partnership with Bonhams came to life beautifully at the sold-out Schumacher Lounge in Monza and through the online auction that followed," said Rich Soddy, founder of the Driver Lounge, after the event:
“We’re delighted to see so many of these special items find new homes while raising funds for the Keep Fighting Foundation.
“We thank all the bidders for their support and look forward to bringing Driver Lounge back at a future Grand Prix.”
Schumacher's race suit another sold piece of memorabilia
The race suit from the 2000 season sees the iconic scarlet red fill the overalls, along with the iconic Marlboro sponsor across the chest. A special addition to the suit also sees the signature of Schumacher added.
The race suit was used during the 2000 Hungarian Grand Prix by the German, a race that the seven-time world champion finished second in behind defending world champion Mika Hakkinen in the McLaren.
Hakkinen moved into the lead of the drivers' standings with five races left after that win. However, by the time the
F1 circus was at the Japanese Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the season, Schumacher sealed the drivers' title, his first of five with the Scuderia.
