Ralf Schumacher often expressed his dissatisfaction with the situation at Red Bull Racing. However, the former Formula 1 driver trusts in the new direction that Max Verstappen's team is heading.
It was revealed Wednesday morning that Christian Horner would leave Red Bull. Shortly thereafter, it was confirmed that Laurent Mekies would take over the Brit's duties. For Sky Deutschland, Schumacher wrote: “He is an incredibly experienced man. He is very close to the technology. He understands the car and has worked at Ferrari for a long time. He is familiar with the material and brings a bit of humanity with him. That's what Red Bull was missing lately.”
In recent weeks, Schumacher has frequently criticised Red Bull and Horner. He pointed out some time ago that the departure of the Brit is important for the team's future. He also supported Jos Verstappen after the Dutchman had an argument with his son's former team boss.

Mekies is not only good for Verstappen

Schumacher is thus quite positive about the future of Red Bull under Mekies. In addition, the German also mentioned another important point about Mekies' arrival. “Yuki Tsunoda will also be happy with this team principal. He will be able to support him even more. They obviously know each other very well,” the German explained.

Tsunoda has been racing under Mekies at Racing Bulls since 2024. His performance at the team from Faenza allowed him to ultimately move to Red Bull. Unfortunately, his performance there has been quite disappointing so far.
With Mekies' arrival, Schumacher expects a positive impact on the atmosphere at Red Bull. “I think it was a very good decision. It also shows how different the teams are when it comes to treating the staff. Especially in terms of how employees are trained and promoted. Mekies is absolutely ready for it and I think he will do an excellent job.”
