The American driver has been the Haas reserve driver since the team's entry to the sport in 2016.
Santino Ferrucci will continue on as Hass' reserve driver for a third year. He is currently the only American hope currently involved with any F1 team in a driving capacity.
Ferrucci will be racing in Formula 2 this year full time with the Trident Racing team, having driven for the team in 10 rounds in 2017 already. He has experience in GP3 also, having competed in 24 rounds of the series.
“I said it when I first became a part of
Haas F1 Team,” Ferrucci reflected. “My goal since I began racing is to become a Formula One driver, and to be an American who is part of an American team is something I take a tremendous amount of pride in.
The American said he was keen to show he possesses the talent needed to break the glass ceiling and make it into Formula One.
“My time with Haas F1 Team has really prepared me for my first full F2 season with Trident, and between the two teams I feel like I’m in the best position to succeed and, ultimately, get to Formula One.”
Gunther Steiner was pleased that Ferrucci would continue on as the Haas reserve driver and the team will continue to monitor his development in 2018.
“We’re pleased to have Santino back with Haas F1 Team and we look forward to his continuing development in F2,” Steiner said.
“Santino is a young, American driver with plenty of potential and we’re very supportive of his desire to make it to Formula One.”
