Sainz on new regulations: 'Protect us'

Big changes are about to happen in the Formula 1 world in 2026. The technical regulations will be shaken up again. Cars will be lighter, more compact and will use 'active' aerodynamic components. These are parts that can move to create more or less downforce.

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz recently voiced his opinion regarding the upcoming changes in Formula 1. Although he is not immediately convinced, the Spaniard wants to wait and see what happens first. "I think it's unfair to criticise or to back the regulation change. At the same time, if it has attracted manufacturers, big manufacturers like Audi, into the sport, I think it's something that has to be appreciated and put into context."

He does have one clear suggestion for the FIA: introduce active suspension. "I think the suspensions are becoming a big talking point at a lot of the tracks and how taxing it can be for the driver. If I would have to request something to the FIA for 2026, if we are going to have active aero, why not active suspension," Sainz wonders.

"This will protect the back of the drivers and to protect our own health and the safety of certain tracks. If would have to ask or add one thing for 2026, it would be something to protect us a bit on that front," concluded the three-time race winner.
