Russell takes Grosjean's place in the Grand Prix Driver' Association

The Grand Prix Driver' Association will get a rejuvenation treatment in 2021. Romain Grosjean has stepped down as director of the GPDA, and Russell will take his place in the drivers' union from 2021.

From 2021 onwards the Grand Prix Driver' Association will look different. The union that defends drivers' rights will lose Grosjean as director this season, although he will stay on as an advisor to take care of some pending business. After that the Frenchman will focus on his career in IndyCar.

Russell will replace Grosjean, and considers it an honour. ''It is an honour and privilege to be nominated director of the GPDA, I appreciate the support of my fellow drivers in entrusting this role to me and recognise the responsibility it entails. In its six decades of existence, the GPDA has been an integral part of supporting and shaping F1 safety, for the sport and our fans. I am looking forward to tackling the new challenges and opportunities alongside Anastasia, Sebastian and Alex,'' Russell revealed in the press release.

Russell will be joined at the GPDA by chairman Alexander Wurz and Sebastian Vettel. In addition to this trio, Anastasia Fowle will also join from 2021. She has been involved in the background of the organisation as a legal advisor for many years and will be involved in supporting the activities from 2021 onwards.
