Thanks to the safety car that came on the track for Max Verstappen's blowout, George Russell saw the opportunity to finally score some points. By staying out, he was suddenly tenth but then lost that position by crashing behind the safety car. In retrospect, he is very honest about that mistake.
"Really sucks, to be honest," begins a disappointed Russell to Sky Sports. "I don't really know what to say. I worked as hard as I could to make the tyres work, I drove as hard as I could throughout the race. It is probably the most at the limit I have ever been in a race. I think it really showed because we were in such a good position."

Russell has no excuse for the error

"I clearly just passed the limit at the end of the safety car. As soon as I lost the car, it was already too late and I was in the wall. I'm really sorry for the team and it is unacceptable on my part.
"I don't really know. I was accelerating, I was changing gears at the same time. And with cold tires, this just happens. It was my job to work as hard as possible to keep Kimi and Sebastian behind me who were on the new warm fresh tires. But as I said, there are no excuses. I have to leave and learn from this," concludes the young Williams driver.
