Russell: Pitwall crash 'not my fault'

George Russell's crash en route to the grid last Sunday marks a second clumsy crash for the Brit in two races. Few Formula 1 fans will have forgotten his crash behind the safety car at Imola. At Motorsport-total.com, Russell argues the difference between the two crashes.

The slide before the Turkish GP was not his fault, unlike the one at Imola, Russell argues. The driver points out the weather conditions and the lack of grip as the main reason for his crash. "I've never experienced so little grip in a Formula 1 car - maybe never in my life.

"I drove into the pits, turned at low speed, but just drove straight ahead," explains the Williams driver. "I wasn't really worried because I was touching the wall so slowly that I knew the guys could do it again.”

Russell also states that the last race weekend was exemplary for Pirelli tyres underperforming in exceptional conditions. “It summed up the Pirelli tyres quite well this weekend. In Formula 1, it's usually about milliseconds and tenths, not seconds. I don't think anyone has ever experienced a weekend like this before."
