Russell and Leclerc not happy with shorter DRS zones: 'Don't understand it'

As in Azerbaijan, the FIA has also chosen to shorten the DRS zones in Miami. Drivers had already criticised this choice by the FIA after Baku. Charles Leclerc and George Russell reiterated in Miami that they were not happy with the choice.

In Baku, drivers blamed the shortened DRS zone for the somewhat dull race, but the FIA does not seem to have heard that. It was announced yesterday that two DRS zones will also be shortened in Miami. Only the zone at start-finish where drivers can open their rear wing will remain unchanged in Miami.

Russell is clearly not happy with the FIA's choice and says he does not understand it. The Mercedes driver also indicates that the drivers have not been involved in the choice. "I think all of us didn't really understand why they've been shortened. None of us were kind of consulted about it or asked our opinion on it. And I think the race speaks for itself in Baku," the Briton said at the press conference in Miami.

Leclerc supports Russell and says he hopes the DRS zones will not be shortened in the future. "I don't think it's the right direction. I think with the cars that we have at the moment, it's still quite difficult to follow. It's better than the previous generation cars. But still not good enough to actually have less DRS. So, yeah, hopefully, in the future races, we won't shorten them," said the Ferrari driver.
