Russell heats up Mercedes rumours with new post on Instagram

One of the biggest questions that has surfaced in the 2021 season concerns the future of Mercedes protégé George Russell. The current Williams driver has been linked with a seat at Mercedes in 2022 for some time now. On Instagram today, the driver decided to fan those flames a little more.

"Take care of the things you love," reads the caption of the Instagram post from Russell sent out into the world today. The image shows the Brit polishing his white Mercedes Benz a little extra. Many a Formula 1 fan could immediately sense from this message the not so subtle hint from Russell.

The financial improvements at Williams have ensured that Russell can give an even better impression of what he has in store this season. During the second consecutive weekend in Austria he drove to Q3 on the medium tyre.

Russell's possible switch is not to everyone's liking though. Lewis Hamilton recently stressed again that he only wants Valtteri Bottas alongside him at Mercedes. How long the driver can keep this up, especially given Bottas' uncharacteristically mediocre form, remains to be seen. We will have to keep an eye on George Russell's instagram, it seems.
