Rotation of Grands Prix not wanted in Spain: 'We want to keep a permanent place'

Circuit president of Catalunya Ramon Tremosa says that the circuit would like to keep a fixed place on the calendar, instead of rotating with other circuits. The calendar is reaching the maximum number of possible races, so some races might be dropped.

In recent years Formula 1 has announced more and more new Grand Prix. The Dutch GP returns to the calendar after 36 years, Saudi Arabia makes its first appearance this year and in 2022 F1 will visit Miami. This means that Grand Prix's that have been on the calendar for some time may well disappear.

Tremosa says that Circuit de Catalunya has the intention to return every year to the F1 calendar. A rotation with another circuit is not seen as an option. "We cannot lose this continuity, because if you leave the calendar, it is very difficult to get back on it," he tells Spanish Mundo Deportivo.

"Our will is to keep a permanent place on the F1 calendar and not go into rotation," said Tremosa. It seemed that the Spanish Grand Prix could well disappear from the calendar with the addition of new races. The circuit does not yet have a contract for 2022.
