Renault say Verstappen is unfair to only blame engine for poor performance

Renault chief technical officer Bob Bell says that Max Verstappen is being unfair in solely blaming Renault for his unreliability and underperformance woes. The Renault man says that Red Bull may be the ones who are at fault, suggesting their methods are behind the issues.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport, Bell explained that he understood why Verstappen was being so outspoken but added that he should be looking at his team rather than at Renault for answers, suggesting it is down to how the team operates the power unit which is causing so many issues.

"For Max, it's all about being fast because he's young and in a hurry," Bell said.

Red Bull and Renault will officially end their relationship after the 2018 season, with Red Bull making the jump to Honda power for 2019.

After four world championships together, the relationship soured quickly after the introduction of the hybrid power units, with Renault seen to be providing a sub-standard product to Red Bull compared to their rivals at the front of the field.
