Red Bull Racing has secured Mercedes' young driver development guru, Gwen Lagrue, BBC Sport reports. The French talent scout also played a key role in discovering the current Formula 1 championship leader, Kimi Antonelli.
According to the British outlet, Lagrue is set to join Red Bull Racing, with the two teams still negotiating an agreement that would release the talent scout from his current contract. It remains unclear when the move will be completed.
Lagrue has been Mercedes' Driver Development Advisor for more than a decade. Among others, the team's current drivers, Kimi Antonelli and George Russell, were scouted during his tenure with the German outfit. Mercedes has declined to comment when GPblog asked about the matter.
The Frenchman is now reportedly set to join a team where his experience could play a key role. Red Bull Racing is known for its strong focus on developing young talent, with both of its current drivers, Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar, having come through the team's junior programme before spending time at Toro Rosso/Racing Bulls and earning promotion to Red Bull Racing.
After the conclusion of the 2025 season, top adviser Helmut Marko also left Red Bull. Previously, he had been the key figure behind the Red Bull junior programme.
