Red Bull designer has contact with Renault

Adrian Newey has had contact with Renault, as the French car manufacturer seek ways to get back to the top.

According to Motorsport Italy, contact has been made between the two parties over the potential switch of teams for Newey.

Newey's contract expires at the end of this season and he has had loads of attention from other sides as well.

Ferrari are amongst the teams who have tried to gain Newey's services in the past, but the British designer has stayed loyal to Red Bull.

Red Bull are set to decide their engine partnership between the next couple of races that take place in France and Austria, respectively.

Renault are looking to get back into the 'top league' of Formula 1 and Cyril Abiteboul has recently said that F1 is being split into 'two worlds'.

The signing of Newey would be huge in their attempts to compete with the likes of Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes.

The French team could use the attributes of Newey to work on their chassis.
