There is a good chance Logan Sargeant will be competing in Formula 1 next season. Finally another American on the grid, although he is an unknown to the general public in America. Not surprisingly, as the youngster drove his races mainly in Europe. He is currently third in the Formula 2 standings.
So not Colton Herta, but Sargeant in Formula 1. This at a time when the sport is unprecedentedly popular in the United States. A record number of spectators is expected at the Circuit of the Americas, and the races in Las Vegas and Miami also attract a lot of interest. A homegrown driver could make Formula 1 even more attractive to American fans.

At the same time, being the one American could bring enormous pressure. After all, he will probably be the hope of a country that has embraced Formuile 1. But in a Williams is likely to be tough. ESPN asked Sargeant about that: "I get asked that question a lot! From my side, I have so much self expectation and I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform anyway that anything else from the outside doesn't really equal that. I don't think it's any extra pressure."
Sargeant says he also sees the media, but he says he has to block out everything that is written. After all, he says he has a job to do: finish the season in F2 well. Finally, Sargeant has to finish in the first five in the final standings to get a super licence at all. He is currently third, so a bad weekend could have very bad consequences.
