Pirelli expresses expectations: 'We have seen some surprises there before'

Pirelli has announced the tyres it will bring to the Hungarian Grand Prix, the last Formula One weekend before the summer break. That choice of tyres can of course go out of the window if it rains, as is expected for the weekend.
The tyre supplier chooses the tyres in the middle of the spectrum: the C2, C3 and C4 tyre will function as the hard, medium and soft compounds respectively. Conditions at the Hungaroring in summer are often hot and dry, with the exception of when it rains, as it has done in recent seasons. Last year, this made for a bizarre scene when Lewis Hamilton was the only driver on the grid to start the race while everyone else went into the pits for slicks.

Isola on expectations for Hungary

The Hungaroring is known as a circuit where overtaking is not easy, but with the new generation of F1 cars it may be a different story. Mario Isola stresses that we have already seen some great races with lots of overtaking this year and hopes the same will be true in Hungary.
"It's a tight and twisty track where the cars are often grouped together," the Pirelli boss said in a press release from the tyre supplier. "Hungary is also known for being very hot, but it’s also rained for the last two years there: so the moral of the story is never to jump to conclusions! We’ve seen some surprises at the Hungaroring before, and that could be the case even more this year."
