Perez helps Verstappen: 'That's why this is a good result for Red Bull Racing'

Sergio Perez has secured his first win for Red Bull Racing and that's important. The Mexican is the ideal second driver next to max Verstappen, according to Gerhard Berger.

Perez said before the season that he needed about five races to get used to it, and nothing was further from the truth. In race five Perez drove a strong race in Monaco, and in Azerbaijan he won. Of course, he won because Verstappen crashed out, but even before that Perez was a in front of Lewis Hamilton.

''Teammates are very important. That's why Perez's win in Baku is very good for Red Bull. It makes Perez stronger and gives him a lot more self-confidence. Even before Verstappen's retirement Perez was a big help for Max. This is what Red Bull needs," said Berger to F1-insider.com.

The former Formula One driver points to the difference with his rival at Mercedes. ''I don't know why Bottas couldn't get it done. He needs to find his form again. In any case, one thing is clear: it will be a fight between Hamilton and Verstappen, and Perez and Bottas will play an important role in this fight," Berger concluded.
