With the cars set to return to the track at Silverstone this weekend, let's look back at the standout moments from the 2025 British Grand Prix, where Lando Norris claimed his maiden home victory and, above all, Nico Hulkenberg finally celebrated the first podium finish of his Formula 1 career. Qualifying produced a surprise as Max Verstappen secured pole position thanks to an ultra-low-downforce setup. However, that decision quickly backfired in the race, with the rain exposing the lack of aerodynamic grip.
The Dutchman held onto the lead at the start and through the opening laps, but Oscar Piastri overtook him on Lap 8 to move into first and begin pulling away. Three laps later, Lando Norris also found a way past, as the rain continued to intensify and made the track increasingly treacherous.
Conditions became so severe that the Safety Car was deployed on Lap 14 to neutralise the race, with green-flag running resuming four laps later. On the very same lap, Isack Hadjar crashed into the barriers, prompting another Safety Car intervention. When the race restarted on Lap 21, Verstappen unexpectedly lost control of his car and spun. Despite the mistake, he managed to keep going without sustaining any damage.
Piastri's race was also compromised after receiving a 10-second penalty for slowing excessively during the Safety Car restart, forcing Verstappen to take evasive action to avoid contact. The penalty effectively handed the race lead to his teammate, who moved into the net lead despite running second on the road.
Behind them, an unlikely battle for the podium unfolded between Lance Stroll and Nico Hulkenberg. The Sauber driver made his way past to move into a provisional podium position, with Lewis Hamilton closing in from behind. The Briton soon cleared Stroll as well and began chasing Hulkenberg in a bid to secure his first Ferrari podium.
The final round of pit stops saw the field switch to slick tyres, with Norris inheriting the lead once Piastri served his penalty. From there, he remained in control all the way to the chequered flag, sealing his maiden home victory. Piastri finished second, while Hulkenberg finally celebrated the first Formula 1 podium of his career.
