It was back in the 2020 season when Mercedes continued to dominate the sport, and Lewis Hamilton led the Brackley-based team to take both titles that season that Lando Norris harshly criticised the then 6-time world champion. After the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix, Norris voiced harsh comment in Hamilton's direction due to the 'simplicity' of the world champion's season.
“I’m just happy for him, nothing more. It doesn’t mean anything to me, really. He’s in a car which should win every race, basically," said Norris as quoted by the BBC.
“He has to beat one or two other drivers, that’s it. Fair play to him, he’s still doing the job he has to do.”

which resulted in a DNF at the Canadian Grand Prix which set him back a further
12 points behind teammate Oscar Piastri in the championship. F1 pundits have stated that the pressure might be getting to big for Norris to endure. Now that McLaren has finally delivered a championship winning car, it is up to its drivers to deliver the results needed to win both titles. Something Piastri has so far excelled at, with Norris still leaving much to be desired.
During the 'F1: The Movie' premiere in New York, Norris was asked by Canadian journalist Karla Grey to say a few words in Hamilton's honour, the co-producer of the film.
“What he’s achieved on [the track], first of all, that’s something I can’t even dream of. One world championship would be cool, but he’s gone on and he’s got seven and he’s got a hundred wins,” said the driver of the McLaren #4 car.
