Lando Norris says it's a shame that this year's Belgian Grand Prix will be very different from previous editions due to the characteristics of the current generation of Formula 1 cars and regulations.
Like Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps places high demands on energy deployment because of its long straights. "It's just a shame, honestly. It's certainly not going to be the same Spa as what it's always been. We'll see," Norris told GPblog, among others, when asked what he expects from this weekend with the current generation of Formula 1 cars. His teammate, Oscar Piastri, previously said that he expects racing at Spa to be "sad."
The defending F1 world champion continued: "We'll see what it's like in Pouhon and a few of the other corners, but it's certainly not going to be quite the same challenge as what it's always been.
"You can kind of rotate, I guess, where you use your power in different modes. It might be that some people push a lot through Pouhon and some people don't, and maybe it's a different challenge for different people.
"So it's really not a completely shared opinion, but we're still incredibly poor on energy around this track so it's certainly not going to be what it has been and as beautiful as it's been in the past.

"It's a track that I think if you ask every driver it's probably in our top three or five tracks of the calendar. Has been since we were all kids so to say and in every series we've enjoyed it, and therefore also a shame that it's going to be going from every other year or whatever.
"I love it here, I think every driver loves, but we also like driving cars that are not just about the looks battery reliant, and yeah. We don't get much in those things, so that's the way it is," the Briton explained.

Norris addresses grid penalty decision for Spa

Ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, McLaren confirmed that Norris will take a 10-place grid penalty for the race.

The Briton hopes he will have the chance to make up some ground come Sunday. He explained: "I have to wait and see really how the overtaking is. Most people will deploy basically the whole battery down to Turn 5, and you go from pretty much 100 battery to zero, so there's not much more use for battery.
"So we have to kind of have to wait and see. I mean, I think comparing to some of our competitors, we probably have a small straight line speed advantage, comparing to the people a little bit further back. So I think comparing to them, we should have a good chance.
"To just overtake in general I think could be pretty difficult here. But this slipstream is pretty big and there's still a few straights but there's no straight line mode and therefore the slipstream is pretty large and you can gain a good amount from that.
"So I don't have all the answers yet but we know it's better than Zandvoort and better than Hungary taking penalties. I hope so, I hope it's not the end of my weekend before it started, but I'm so confident we can have a good weekend," he concluded.
